tuning up
If you don’t own a tuning device, first tune the 6th string, as best as you can, to E. If u have a song that has an E chord transcribed, and you also have the song, try and listen for the chord, pause and tune as best you can. If you can’t afford an electronic tuner, then a pitch pipe is a cheap substitute.
Once you have your 6th string, or low E string, tuned, hold the 5th fret. This will give you an A. Tune your 5th string to sound the same.
Now hold the 5th string at the 5th fret. This will give you a D. Tune your 4th string the same and so on.
(When you tune your 2nd string, hold the 3rd string at the 4th fret instead.)
